Stop Griswold
OverDevelopment
www.sgod.org
Stop Griswold OverDevelopment (SGOD) is a concerned group of
Connecticut citizens seeking to preserve one of Connecticut's finest
natural resources, the Hammonasset State Park and its adjacent tidal
wetlands. Enjoyed by millions of visitors each year, Hammonasset
also serves as the home for hundreds of species of birds and other
animals, including a number of endangered species.
This public land is threatened with irreparable harm by real estate
developers from New York. They propose to build a densely packed
development of 127 residential units, mostly row houses and
apartment buildings, directly adjacent to these sensitive tidal
wetlands. The units will be crammed six-per-acre onto the Griswold
Airport site in Madison, many as large as 4000 square feet. The
pollution generated by this development will markedly damage the
ecology of the salt marshes, at the expense of the plant and animal
species that live there, and further degrade the Hammonasset River
estuary and Long Island Sound.
We are committed to preventing the destruction of this precious
habitat, which belongs to all of the people of Connecticut. Once
it's gone, it's gone forever.
